On October 28, 2024, as part of our XChange Düsseldorf project, an inspiring panel discussion took place at the Central Library in Düsseldorf. Participants with migration and refugee backgrounds, who had previously undergone intensive preparation in workshops and argumentation training, had the opportunity to share their perspectives and personal experiences with the audience.
Key Topics
The discussion centered around crucial questions of social participation and the barriers participants face in their daily lives. They particularly highlighted:
- Everyday discrimination
- Lack of equal opportunities in education and the labor market
- Challenges in social integration
These experiences clearly demonstrated the urgent need for greater support—both at an individual and a structural level.
Dialogue and Exchange
The openness of the participants created a unique atmosphere that also encouraged the audience to share their personal stories. Together, initial approaches were discussed to make social participation fairer and more inclusive. A particularly moving moment was when the audience expressed gratitude for the participants’ courage and openness.
Why This Project Matters
XChange Düsseldorf highlights the importance of dialogue between people with migration and refugee backgrounds and society. Personal stories foster understanding, build bridges, and open new perspectives.
Our Goal
The panel discussion was a powerful example of how essential it is to develop solutions together and actively promote diversity. Our goal is to continue shaping Düsseldorf as a city where all people—regardless of their background—experience equal opportunities and support.
