At the three-day professional training “Praxis Digital” in Hanover, the focus was on practical questions: how social media works, what role platform algorithms and digital spaces play in radicalization processes, and how such developments can be recognized at an early stage. In addition to media literacy and entry points into radicalization processes, the program also covered practical methods for counseling and communication in digital spaces.
At the same time, the KN connect conference “From Algorithm to Ideology? Islamism in the Digital Space: Mechanisms and Prevention” took place in Berlin. The focus was on algorithms, AI, gaming, gender roles, and the ways extremist actors use digital platforms — as well as what effective prevention can do to counter these developments.
For us at preventex, particularly valuable was the fact that many of these topics are directly relevant to our daily work. How can we reach young people in their digital environments? How can we identify problematic developments at an early stage? And how can prevention, content, and online streetwork engage where radicalization actually takes place?
Many new insights, exciting perspectives, and above all: plenty to think about, explore, and put into practice.
