On October 23, streetwork@online, together with the welfare organisation Sozialdienst muslimischer Frauen, BAG RelEx and cultures interactive, held a workshop in Frankfurt am Main entitled “Sexuality and Relationships in Islamism”. Professionals from academia and prevention practice came together to discuss perspectives, experiences and approaches.
The focus was on the role that sexuality, partnerships, marriage and gender roles play in Islamist programmes aimed at girls and young women, and how prevention work can address these topics in a religion-sensitive way that reflects their everyday realities.
Following presentations by researcher Mira Schwarz and sex educator Figen Denk, participants worked in small groups to explore their own observations and practical approaches to the question: “What needs do Islamist programmes address, and which prevention approaches show promise?”
Overall, the event provided an opportunity for open exchange and offered valuable insights.
