On September 20, the focus was on what children need to grow up safely and well: protection, participation, reliable relationships, and the opportunity to express their own needs and wishes.
For us, child protection means more than protecting children from harm. It also means strengthening children in their rights, listening to them, and taking their perspectives seriously.
Especially when working with families, we see how important it is to give children space and make their voices heard. Children are not simply those for whom adults make decisions – they have their own rights and should be involved according to their age and abilities.
World Children’s Day reminds us that children’s rights matter every day. For a society where children can grow up safely, be heard, and help shape their lives.
