More and more people are exposed to hate and harassment online. According to recent studies, women and individuals perceived as having a migrant background are particularly targeted on social media. With the new project “Sicher engagiert. Strengthening Digital Democracy in Politics and Volunteering,” AVP aims to counter this development.
“Social media amplifies misogyny, racism, and other anti-democratic tendencies,” explains project manager Michael Bücker. “We have designed an innovative series of online workshops that provides practical strategies for dealing with online hate. At the same time, we offer tools to actively promote digital democracy.”
From “How to Social Media” and “Risk Management Online” to “Shaping Democracy Digitally,” the modules cover different focus areas and are tested interactively. The project particularly benefits from many years of expertise in online extremism prevention, where methods have been developed and tested in digital environments over several years.
The new project is specifically aimed at elected representatives as well as individuals engaged in volunteer work. Registration is available online at www.sicher-engagiert.de.
