AwareNet is a new prevention project by AVP e.V. aimed at countering religiously motivated radicalization on social networks using digital tools. Funded by the federal program “Demokratie leben!” and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Justice, AwareNet combines digital outreach social work with artificial intelligence (AI) to reach vulnerable young people early on platforms such as Instagram or TikTok.

Since the project launched in February, AwareNet has been in the development phase. Many of the necessary software solutions are still being procured or tested. Nevertheless, initial practical steps have already been implemented: for instance, the first AI avatars were created using d-ID. These digital figures will be used on social media in the future—such as to convey democracy-promoting messages or to engage young users.
Another area of application is the use of large language models such as ChatGPT or DeepSeek. In the future, these are intended to enable automated yet context-sensitive responses to comments or discussions online. Tools like InVideo AI have also been tested to quickly and automatically generate visual content for social media.
Even though AwareNet is still in the process of testing many procedures and building technical foundations, it is already becoming clear: the use of AI can open up new paths in prevention work.
